Graceful Exit
Egrets can be funny. Sometimes several can get along just fine in a group, other times one will fly clear across the marsh just to chase off another. In this case we have a pair that started out being friendly enough, but that good will was not to last. One decided the other had to go, and go immediately.
But it was the way the chase and the retreat turned out that intrigued me. It seems they were both determined to look good during the altercation, as if it was a routine that had been planned in advance and fully choreographed.
Like I said…funny birds.

The long feathers on the backs of egrets remind me of rat tails from the ’80s! Great series of pics, Phil.

They don’t always have those rat tails, depends on the time of year. They can be goofy birds though.
Thanks, I’m glad you liked the egret pics!

Guess they didn’t get the memo Re: auditions for the Traveling Show closed. I would get their names and contact numbers – just in case a backup act is required. Or to give them a “heads up” for next year. Love your photos😀

Sembra che stiano facendo un balletto classico, veramente belli questi scatti. Bravissimo come sempre caro Phil!!
Un caro saluto, Pat

I guess if you are going to do it, you may as well do it in style – especially if that famous wildlife photographer is in the stands.

I suppose even if you are being chased away, it’s still best to look good while retreating.
Maybe they are sick of having me around. Could be. 🙂

A beautiful set. Thought of your wonderful wildlife photography yesterday when we were exploring Lake Palic, Serbia. I was trying to capture a graceful egret, alas, she was rather shy and kept dancing off. 🙂

Love these. A bit like synchronised swimming. Except not in the water. And with birds. RH

Very graceful, but rather comical too, Phil. 🙂

They are indeed comical Sylvia, but I try not to laugh when they are around. Same method I use with the alligators.
Don’t ever want the wildlife mad at me. 🙂

I’m counting on you and your egrets, as our egret has yet to make an appearance this year… But the year is young.

I wish they would take my photographic concerns more seriously, but sadly they don’t perform for me often enough. 🙂
