Heading Back
An osprey flies back from the ocean where he just plucked himself out a nice fish. It’s an odd looking fish though, I’m not sure what type it is. Usually I see the ospreys with mullet or a similar species, guess this guy wanted a little variety added to the usual seafood buffet.

No its a fish, just a weird looking one.
That is an amazing capture Mr Phil! They were just discussing how the osprey almost crosses his legs to orient the fish while flying. Making things more aerodynamic to avoid the loss of a hard earned meal! Unless an eagle comes to steal its previous catch!
Well the osprey sure knows what it’s doing out there!
They have been all over the place at Garden City Beach lately snatching fish up out of the ocean.
It sure does look intent!
I wonder if he’s feeding a family or just lunch for himself?
I never thought of it feeding young. Wish I had more experience with seeing them. Since I can’t, I’m glued to your blogs.
I know they have a lot of nests out by the nearby river and I often see an osprey pluck a fish from the ocean then fly west with it and I expect he is bringing it to feed the youngsters.
Kevin is a fisherman but couldn’t identify this one! Whatever it is, the osprey obviously thinks he has a good meal coming!
The osprey did seem quite pleased with his catch and I’m sure if he is bringing it to a nest for a kids meal they will enjoy it. But sometimes the eagles and osprey will keep and eat a fish for themselves but they do have to eat too so we understand.
